Effie Drake Rites Held Last Thursday

Life-Long Madison County Resident Died Here Oct. 14

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie M. Drake, a life-long resident of Madison county, who died at her home Oct. 14, were held from the home and from the Webster church on Wednesday of last week. The rites were in charge of the Rev. W. M. Hartin. Burial was made in the Roberts cemetery.

Mrs. Drake was the former Effie May Devault, daughter of Henry F. and Mary F. Devault, and was born March 4, 1871. She was 74 years of age at the time of her death, and had been in good health until about a year ago.

She received her early education in the Jackson No. 9 rural school, and in the Winterset grade and high schools. She was also a graduate of the Dexter Normal school, and taught several rural schools in Madison and Adair counties.

As a young woman she joined the Webster Methodist church, where she retained a life-long membership. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid and the W. C. T. U. there, and served in various offices in each organization.

She was married March 20, 1894, to Will W. Drake. He died June 2, 1923. They were the parents of five children. One of them, Harold Forrest, died at the age of 15 months. She is survived by four children, Alfred D. Drake of Patterson, Cecil H. Drake of Winterset, Mrs. Deva A. Danner of Creston, and Loretta L. Drake of Winterset. She also leaves three grandchildren.
