RAYMOND VANCE Died On Monday

Winterset Madisonian

C. Raymond Vance, who retired last year after serving as Winterset's assistant postmaster for 32 years, died Monday, Sept. 4, 1950, after a lingering illness. He was 67 years of age.

Mr. Vance had been on the staff of the Winterset postoffice for 40 years at his retirement, starting there in 1909. He had been assistant postmaster since 1917.

He was born Jan. 15, 1883, in Penn township, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Vance. Most of his life was spent in Winterset. He was married June 23, 1907, to Edna I. Streeter of Effingham, Kan. They were the parents of seven children, two of whom died in infancy.

Mr. Vance joined the Winterset Church of Christ 36 years ago, and was active in its affairs over a long period of years, serving as a deacon for an extended period. He also was affiliated with the Masonic lodge and the Lions club.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Helen Dick of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Doris Conway of El Monte, Calif.; three sons, Donald Vance of Canon City, Ore., Hubert Vance of Chicopee Falls, Mass., and Walter Vance of LaGrange, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Walter H. Vance of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Wauchope of Long View, Wash., and Mrs. Glen Barr of Lorimor; and five brothers, Claude Vance of Norwalk, Calif., Harry and George Vance of Winterset, Lynn Vance of Des Moines, and Robert Vance of Denver, Colo.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Winterset Church of Christ, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
