MRS. B. J. HOLLEN Rites Held Here

Mrs. Bert J. Hollen, long-time resident of the Webster community, died Friday, Sept. 1, 1950, at the home of her son, Eugene H. Hollen of Davenport. She was 71 years of age.

Mrs. Hollen was the former Emma Leona Hart, daughter of Miles and Martha Welty Hart, and was born in Webster township April 5, 1879. During her childhood her family lived nine miles southwest of Winterset.

As a young woman she attended Greenfield Normal school, where she obtained a teaching certificate. She taught in several schools around Winterset in the ensuing years.

When she was 24 years old, she was married to Bert J. Hollen. Their home was on the Hollen farm in the east edge of Adair county. She attended the Webster church, taking an active part in its affairs.

Her husband died in 1944. Since then she had made her home with her children. They are Mrs. Lucille Koch of Adel, John D. Hollen of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Eugene Hollen of Davenport. She also leaves six grandchildren and a brother, Ora Hart of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. A. R. Weede and the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
