BERT REED Rites Held Saturday

Winterset Madisonian

Funeral services for Bert Clyde Reed, Winterset resident, who died last Tuesday noon, were held at the home on North First Avenue, last Saturday, July 5th at one o'clock in the afternoon. The Rev. G. L. Hufstader, pastor of the local Methodist church conducted brief rites here, and the remains were taken to Orient, where the Rev. M. D. Summerbell, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Perkins, conducted services at 2:30 and burial was made in the Orient cemetery.

Mr. Reed, who had made his home here for the past three years, had been ill only a week previous to his death.

He was the oldest son of Andrew and Ellen Reed, and was born April 1, 1887, at Colby, Kan. When he was two yeas of age, his family moved to Orient, and they lived in or near there, and in Madison county until his death.

On Feb. 3, 1910, he was married to Miss Abana Booth of Lorimor. They were the parents of three daughters, Darlene Mable, who preceded him in death March 1, 1938; Mrs. Lela Neiding of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. Martha Parker of Glendale, Calif. He also leaves three grandchildren, Ellen and Robert Neiding and John Reed Parker. He also leaves eight brothers and sisters: Mrs. Ida Walker of Winterset, Mrs. Margaret Sinclair of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Edna King of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Mable Hayden of Creston, Mrs. Ira Reed of Orient, Wilbur Reed of Thayer, Harley Reed of Greenfield, and Donald Reed of Creston. His parents, and a brother, Leslie, preceded him in death.
