MRS. W.H. VANCE DIED LAST FRIDAY
Life-Long Resident of This County Was 92 Years of Age

Mrs. W. H. Vance of Winterset died here Friday, Aug. 28 after several years of failing health. She was 92 years of age, and had lived all her life in Madison County.

Mrs. Vance was the widow of Walter H. Vance, who held the Winterset postmastership for 18 years, and who also represented Madison county in the state legislature.

She was the former Lucy Mae Nichols, daughter of George and Mary Nichols and was born at Worthington, Aug. 22, 1861. Her early life was spent in that community and there she was married to Mr. Vance on Dec. 24, 1880. They farmed near Worthington for a number of years, but moved into Winterset about 1890. She had lived in Winterset since that time.

She was a member of the Methodist church, and a life member of the Pythian Sisters.

In 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Vance were privileged to observe their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary, but his death occurrred two years later, in 1947. A son, Raymond Vance of Winterset, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by seven children; Mrs. Pearl Wauchpe of Longview, Wash, Claude Vance of Norwalk, Calif., Harry and George Vance of Winterset, Lynn Vance of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Barr of Lorimor, and Robert Vance of Denver, Colo. She also leaves 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Worthington cemetery.
