MRS. LOUISA CLARK Dies at age 101

Winterset lost the last of its centenarian residents Saturday night in the death of Mrs. Louisa Clark, who long life closed at the age of 101 years.

Mrs. Clark had succeeded to the crown as Madison county's oldest living person after the death of Mrs.C. A. Robbins last New Year's day.

Death came more than a year after the stroke she suffered early in 1946, since which she had been confined to her bed. Prior to that she had enjoyed unusually good health for one of her advanced years.

Mrs. Clark had lived in Madison County since Civil War days. She was a native of Indiana, where she was born April 20, 1946, one of the large family of children born to John and Lidia Starkey. In 1855, when she was 9 years old, she came with her parents to Iowa, making the trip in a covered wagon. They settled in Taylor county, where she grew to womanhood and where she married to Levi Taylor.

As a young married couple with two children, they came to Madison County in 1861,the year the Civil war started. With the exception of a few years in South Dakota, the remainder of Mrs. Clark's life was spent in or near Winterset.

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were he parents of nine children, six of whom preceded the mother in death. The husband and father died 57 years ago.

In 1916 she was married to Rufus Clark, also a member of a pioneer family here. His death occurred in 1926.

Surviving are her three children, M. O. Taylor of Winterset, V. F. Taylor of Patterson and Mrs. William Perry of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
