Richard "Dick " Casson, 73, of Winterset, died of cancer Sept. 23, 2004 at his home

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 27 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Douglas township, Madison County.

Dick Casson was born Aug. 4, 1931, to John and Margaret (Underwood) Casson of McClelland. He began work in tractor repair for Oliver Corporation shortly after high school and was later drafted into the United States Army. Following his discharge in 1954, he did radio and television repair for Council Bluffs Television and later moved to Winterset and worked as a lineman for Northwestern Bell. In 1956, Dick was transferred to work with the Western Electric Defense project on the Distant Early Warning Radar in northern Canada.

He attended Iowa State College for a time and later married Teressa M. McDonald on Sept. 2, 1961 in Des Moines. In 1994, after 33 years of service, he retired from FAA as an electronic supervisor.

He was a charter member of the Airport Toastmasters and board member of the Madison County Historical Society since 1976. He was a member of the County Sesquicentennial Committee for the state sesquicentennial, Elementary School Referendum Committee, National Heisey Glass Club, Great Plains Heisey Glass Club, Winterset Boosters and Men's Garden Club. He also had been a Little League coach, AAU assistant coach and a three-time sweepstakes winner at the Iowa State Fair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and John Casson; and two sisters, Mildred Greenough and Margaret Mary Ryan.

He is survived by his wife, Teressa, of Winterset; one son, David Casson; two daughters, Jennifer Casson Moorehead and Juliette Casson Houseman; two sisters, Jane Koch and Alice Cumming; six brothers, Roscoe, Donald, James, Charles, Terry and Keith Casson; and seven grandchildren.
