Velma Helen McVay, 86, Lenox, died May 26, 1997 at her home.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. May 30 at the Powers Funeral Home. Chaplain David McKight of the Union County County Sheriff Department will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg.

Mrs. McVay was born Oct. 18, 1910 in Jasper County to Fred L. and Minnie E. (Clark) Klos. She was educated in the Monroe and Macksburg area schools. On June 13, 1927, she married Forest Holmes McVay at Macksburg. She lived in the Macksburg, Zion and Afton area before moving to the Lenox area in 1972. She was a homemaker and farm wife.

Survivors include seven sons, Duane (wife Sharon) McVay of Rogers, Ark., Calvin (wife Ethel) McVay of Winterset, John (wife Caroline) McVay of Cedar Falls, Larry of Afton, Michael (wife Joan) McVay of Creston, Daniel McVay of Waterloo, and Abraham (wife Barb) McVay of Winterset; three daughters, Helen (husband Kenneth) Finnegan of Phoenix, Ariz. and Judi (husband Von) Tull and Beth Ripperger, all of Afton; two sisters, Dorothy Lauer and Inez (husband Max) Stickels, all of Creston; sister-in-law, Claudean McVay of Glenwood; 52 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1986; a son, Keith in 1968; two daughters, Patricia Francis in 1989 and Kathryn Craig in 1990; five grandchildren; a great grandchild; six sisters; and a brother.
