August 19, 1999Darlene Olive Johnson, 83, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Aug. 12, 1999, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 16, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Dr. George Lair, Dr. Bobby G. Dickerson and Ethel Lee Osborn officiating. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery.
Darlene Johnson was born Nov. 4, 1915, to Ernest Guy and Bessie May (Loy) Frank of Truro. She married Mont C. Johnson on March 14, 1940, in Truro. A lifetime Madison County resident, she was a homemaker and retired musician. Darlene was a member of the Sunshine Garden Club, Tri-L, Current Topic, Winterset Music Club, First Christian Church of Winterset, Christian Women's Fellowship, Madison County Historical Society, Republican Women, Church Women United, China Painters, Madison County Memorial Hospital Guild and Master Gardeners. She had been the organist at the Winterset First Christian Church for nearly 40 years and also was an accredited flower show judge for the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa.
She is survived by two sons, David Johnson of Boone and Dennis Johnson (wife Liz) of Marshalltown; a daughter, Linda Lewis (husband Jeffrey) of Indianola; two brothers, Doyle Frank (wife Thelma) and Dale Frank (wife Esther), both of Winterset; a sister, Doris Johnson (husband Doyle) of Truro; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
