MONT JOHNSON Died Sunday

Winterset Madisonian
September 20, 1972

Mont C. Johnson, member of a well-known Winterset family and a prominent business man here for many years, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 1972, at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He was 59 years of age.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Winterset and a life-long resident of this community. A son of Will C. and Goldie Clark Johnson, he was born here Sep. 29, 1912. As a young man he served in the U. S. army during World War II.

He was married at Truro on March 14, 1940, to Darlene Frank of that community. Their married life was spent in Winterset.

Through his life here Mr. Johnson was a leader in the business, community service and church life of the community. He was associated in the ownership and management of the Winterset - Des Moines Monument company over a long period of years. He was chairman of the board of the Farmers and Merchants Sate bank, a past president of the Winterset Lions club, and a member of the American Legion. He was active in the First Christian church of Winterset, serving as elder for many years, and chairman of the building committee. He had also served on the Winterset Park board.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Darlene Johnson of Winterset; two sons, David Johnson of Fairfield and Dennis Johnson of Iowa City, a daughter, Mrs. Linda Wilson of Winterset; his father, Will C. Johnson of Winterset; one grandchild; and two brothers, Dwight and Clarence Johnson of Winterset.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the First Christian church here by the pastor, the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
