Wessie Breeding, 96, of Winterset died Jan. 18, 2006, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. A fraternal service was conducted by the Pythian Sisters, Winterset Temple 105, during visitation. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Wessie Breeding was born July 3, 1909, to Joseph and Julia (Irvin) Ekleberry of Derby and was a 1927 graduate of Humeston High School. On Oct. 25, 1931, she married James Breeding in Milan, Mo. A resident of Winterset since 1927, Wessie had been a clerk at Breeding’s Hardware for many years. Her memberships included Past Chiefs, Pythian Sisters, Afternoon Bridge Club, Jolly Dozen Bridge Club, A.V.A., Lakeview Country Club, Sunshine Garden Club, National Federation of Republican Women, and the Winterset First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Forrest, Burt, Ward, Kenneth, and Jack Ekleberry; and two sisters, Dorothy Stout and Kathleen Maschmeier.

She is survived by one son Jim Breeding of Ojai, Calif.; one daughter, Kay Darnell of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madison County Health Trust Foundation.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
