Thelma Coffman, Winterset

Thelma Mae Coffman, 85, of Winterset died of complications of a stroke June 26, 1999, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, June 30) at 2 p.m. at Foursquare Gospel Church in Winterset with the Rev. Terry Kerr officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Madison County.

Thelma Coffman was born Nov. 16, 1913, in Madison County to Elmer Clarence and Permelia Alice (Schutz) Eivins. She married Elmer S. Coffman on Aug. 18, 1934, in Macksburg. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident of Madison County. Thelma was a member of the Oak Grove Women's Society, Farm Bureau, Oak Grove Community Church of rural Madison County and a charter member of the Creative Culture Hobby Club. She also had been a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher and was on the Madison County Extension Council.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

She is survived by two sons, Don E. Coffman (wife Eunice) of Honduras and Edgar T. Coffman (wife Gayla) of West Des Moines; one daughter, Sandra M. Wagner (husband George) of Des Moines; one sister, Margaret Orr of St. Charles; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Oak Grove Community Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
