Josephus Hamblin, son of Simeon and Eleanor Hamblin, was born in Ohio, Aug. 13, 1843, departed this life June 18, 1913, aged 69 years, ten months and five days.

He was united in marriage to Rachel E. Moore, on June 19, 1868. To this union were born twelve children, of whom seven are living, Mrs. Nellie Richmond, Mrs. Bele Schoonover, Mrs. Mary Burgan, Mrs. Anna Bush, Hannibal, Thomas and Kate E. His companion and five children preceeded him to the better world.

He was one of Madison county's early settlers, moving here with his parents in 1854. Early in life he gave his heart to God and often during his continued illness, expressed a desire to leave this world of suffering and be at rest. He was a kind, loving father.

The funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Nellie Richmond, conducted by Rev. Shannon, assisted by Rev. Amos Walker. The remains were laid to rest in the Hamblin cemetery.
