Long-Time Farmer in Adair And Guthrie Counties Died Here Nov. 8
Herbert M. Stowell of Greenfield, a long-time resident of Adair and Guthrie counties, died Friday, Nov. 8, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, at the age of 72 years. He had been in ill health for a number of years, and his death followed influenza, which developed into pneumonia.
Mr. Stowell was born in Creston on July 4, 1885. He had lived in Greenfield since retirement from farming in 1950.
Immediate survivors include his wife, the former Ona J. Beaman, and six sons and a daughter: Harold Stowell of Marion, Eldon, Kenneth and Donald Stowell of Greenfield, Herbert Stowell, Jr., of Longmont, Colo., Ernest Stowell of Winterset, and Mrs. Arthur Hohertz of Montrose, Calif. He also leaves a brother, Chester Stowell of San Pedro, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Nov. 10 from the Bickford Funeral home in Greenfield, with Cal Linderman of Lyman conducting the service. Burial was made in the Greenfield cemetery.
