Winterset Madisonian - March 1916

Jacob Moffit was born August 16th, 1847, in Pennsylvania, came to Madison county, Iowa, in 1867, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. D. Lecoque, March 3, 1916. Thus another of Madison county's early settlers has been called. On January 6, 1870, he was married to Miss Annie Eliza Gardner, who survives him. To this union was born five children, all are living.

In early life he was a member of the M. E. church. He leaves to mourn his departure five children, eight grandchildren and one brother. Deceased was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Lorimor.

Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter Sunday, March 5th, conducted by H. A. Cross, of Macksburg, after which the Macksburg I.O.O.F. lodge took charge of the services and the remains were laid to rest in the Moon cemetery.
