Meets Death at His Post.

Newton Field, an old resident of this place, where he had lived all his life excepting the past few years, was killed in a railroad wreck on the Northwestern railroad last Thursday morning. He was fireman on a passenger train and in a collision his engine was overturned, throwing him underneath killing him instantly. Mr. Field has made his home for many years with Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Walker, of this place when he went into the railroad business about eight years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were visiting their son Frank at Sioux City at the time of the accident and accompanied the remains here Friday when they were interred in the cemetery at this place.

Newton was well known and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He had reached the rank of engineer but was firing temporarily on account of a shortage of firemen. He had no family and his life insurance was made payable to Mrs. Walker of whom he was very fond.

NEWTON FIELDS Dead

The body of Newton Fields, a young man who formerly lived west of the city, was brought here for burial.

Fields was killed in a railroad wreck in Onawa, a coal car which was being bunted on a flying switch striking the incoming passenger train on which Fields was fireman. The young man was buried under the wreck and was instantly killed. The engineer was badly injured.

Fields lived west of the city with his mother for several years. When she died he got a place as fireman on the Northwestern train. He would have been an engineer in a few months more. He was about thirty years old.
