Death of Mrs. Mary Mark

De Soto (Special) - The death of one of our oldest pioneer women Mrs. Mary Mark occurred Saturday night. While she had not been in the best of health for the past year or more owing to her extreme age of ninety-five years, her last illiness was of only a week's duration. She passed away at the home of her son, F. S. Mark with whom she had lived for many years. She had lived in this community for about 70 years.

Four of her children live near, F. S. and W. A. Mark here at De Soto and Mrs. Jennie McKibban and Mrs. S. S. McKibban at Earlham. One son Sidney Mark, died at Earlham some years ago, and a daughter, Mrs. Etta Stanton, lives in Los Angeles, California. Her funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the M. E. church, and burial was made in the DeSoto cemetery.

Obituary of Mary Harper Mark

Mary C. Harper was born in Washington, Fayette county, Ohio, on January 2, 1840, and passed away at the home of her son, Frank, in De Soto, Iowa, on August 10, 1934.

Her family moved from Ohio to Indiana, then to Mercer county, Missouri, where she was united in marriage to Wm. A. Mark on November 1, 1857. They came to Iowa to make their home, and to this union were born seven children, two of whom, Leonard and Sidney, have passed away. The other children are: Mrs. Jennie McKibben, of Earlham; Mrs. Anne McKibben, of Earlham; Mrs. Etta Stanton of Los Angeles, California; and Will and Frank, of De Soto. These, with twenty-eight grandchildren, fifty-five great grandchildren and thirty-four great great grandchildren, her relatives and friends are left to mourn her death.

She had spent the past twelve years of her life in the home of her son, Frank, and wife, and here, during her last sickness, with loved ones near, she was given the most loving and affectionate care.

Mrs. Mark was a member of the Methodist church of Earlham.

The funeral service for Mrs. Mark was held at the Methodist church in De Soto, on Monday, August 13th, conducted by Rev. S. C. Peterson. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
