SUSIE SHORT, Winterset

Services for Susie Short, 95, Winterset, who died July 16, 1988, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, were held Wednesday, July 20, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Clarke County on Feb. 2, 1893, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Jane White Kirk. She was a school teacher in Clarke County, a charter member of the Madison Chapel Church (Christian Church) in Clarke County and very active in the Barney Christian Church. She was a Sunday school teacher.

She was married to Vern Short on Feb. 18, 1914 in Des Moines. Her parents came from Cumberworth, England in 1892 with nine children and Susie was the first born in this country.

She had lived in Winterset since 1970 and had been in Madison County since 1920 and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Willard Short and wife Eva; a daughter, Christine Farlow and husband Jack; five grandsons, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers and six sisters.
