Esther Pauline Groth, 95, died Jan. 11, 2003, of multiple organ system failure at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 15) at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Esther Groth was born Sept. 5, 1907, in Winterset to Charles Wilson and Minnie Belle (Paullin) McDonald. She was a graduate of Winterset High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On Sept. 7, 1938, she married Everett F. Groth in Wellman. A lifetime resident of Winterset, Esther had taught school early in her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, United Methodist Women, Madison County Historical Society and Columbian Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Calvin McDonald.

She is survived by her husband, Everett, of Winterset; a son, Paul E. Groth of Oakton, Va.; a daughter, Linda L. Beaman-Sublett of Winterset; a sister, Eathel Eyerly of Winterset; seven granchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
