ROBERT JACKSON Dies at 50 Years

July 8, 1964

Robert C. Jackson, a resident of the Winterset community the last 20 years, and one of this community's most active and responsible citizens, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 2, 1964. He was fatally stricken at Battle Lake, Minn., while on vacation there.

Mr. Jackson was 50 years of age at his death. For the last 14 years he had operated the Conoco Service Station here.

He was past president of the Winterset Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Winterset Lions and Kiwanis and a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.

Mr. Jackson was a native of Chicago, where he was born July 9, 1913, a son of Robert F. and Cecilia Schwartz Jackson.

He was married in 1946 to Mrs. Marjorie Bass of Winterset, and assumed the responsibility of rearing her five children, born of a previous marriage. Five children were born also to this marriage.

He is survived by his wife; the five children, James, Kathy, Pamela, Dennis and Mike Jackson, all at home; a daughter by a previous marriage, Mrs. Patricia Hurwitz of New York City, N.Y.; the five step-children, Thomas D. Bass of Winterset, Mrs. Judy Finnigan of Des Moines, Mrs. Connie Weidman of Winterset, Robert Bass of Orlando, Fla., and Richard Bass of Fullerton, Calif. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Brown of Orlando, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.

Rosary services were held Sunday evening from the Collins Funeral home here. Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic church. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
