Mott Saxton, former Madison county treasurer and a well known resident of Madison County most of his life, died Monday, May 18, 1964, at a Des Moines hospital. He was 68 years of age.
Harold Mott Saxton was born near Macksburg March 24, 1896, a son of Harry and Cora Berry Saxton. He attended Macksburg high school and later farmed with his father.
During World War I he served overseas with the American Expeditionay force, as a member of the 77th Field artillery in the Fourth division.
He was married July 14, 1931, at Princeton, Mo., to Sara Leone Robbins, who survives him.
Mr. Saxton served in the Madison county treasurer's office for 18 years, as deputy for six years, and later was elected treasurer, serving in that capacity for 12 years.
Mr. Saxon was active in community affairs over a long period of years. During World War II he was home service chairman of the Madison county chapter of the American Red Cross. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of World War I. He was active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Winterset.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Joseph R. Saxton of Winterset; three grandchildren; and a brother, Chester C. Saxton of Mishawaka, Ind.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., from the First Methodist church of Winterset, in charge of Elders Don Houghton and Ernest Lindin of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery, with military honors by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.
