SARA LEONE SAXTON Funeral Tuesday

Sara Leone Saxton of Winterset Care Center North died Saturday, March 15, 1980, at Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. She had lived in Winterset for nearly 50 years.

Born on May 4, 1896, in Davis City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph Jenkins and Sara Ageline Lassley Robbins. She graduated from high school at Davis City and attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb.

She taught school at Kellerton and at Macksburg where she met Harold Mott Saxton. They were united in marriage at Princeton, Mo., on July 14, 1931, and they made their home in Winterset. Mrs. Saxton taught in the rural schools of Madison County for six years before their consolidation and, with her husband, operated a nursing home in Winterset before retiring.

Mrs. Saxton was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge, Winterset Music Club and Madison County Antique Association.

Among the survivors are a son, Joe Saxton of Winterset, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on May 18, 1964, and by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Collins Funeral Home with Elder Jesse Walker officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
