9 February 2005Ruth Jessie Gorman, 78 of Winterset died Feb. 7, 2005 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
A private family funeral service will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Jim Howland officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday Feb. 12, at the Presbyterian Church.
Ruth Gorman was born April 8, 1926, in Madison County to Walker Daniel and Erabell Marian (Moland) Fletcher. She was a 1943 graduate of Winterset High School and a graduate of the University of Colorado. On April 6, 1947, she married John E. Gorman in Winterset-longtime editor, owner and publisher of the Winterset Madisonian. Ruth, a lifetime resident of Madison County, had been a social worker for Madison County Social Services before retiring. In October of 1990, she and John were honored as the queen and king of the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset and also a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walker and Erabelle; her stepmother, Isabel Fletcher, her husband, John E.; and two brothers, Willis and Ai Fletcher.
She is survived by one son, Ted Gorman of West Des Moines; three daughters, Pat Richards and husband Kevin of Jefferson, Jane Wooldridge of West Des Moines, and Carol Gorman of Overland Park, Kan.; four siblings, Gayla Mills of Winterset, Paul Fletcher and wife Bev of Sioux City, Gayla Robeson and husband Tom of Tucson, Ariz., and Daniel Fletcher and wife Deb of Moorhead, Minn; two grandchildren, Tim Gorman and Courtney Wooldridge; and nieces and nephews.
