Death of Mrs. Alice Myers

To the long list of old settlers who have passed away, must be added the name of Alice A. Wines, wife of the late Samuel Myers.

At the age of twenty, she was married and two years later, in 1853, Mr. and Mrs. Myers left their Pennsylvania home for the new west, locating in Madison county, which has always remained the family's home.

For some years, they lived southwest of town, but the family have resided in the old Jonas Brock home, south of the depot, since about the time of the civil War, in which Mr. Myers served as a volunteer.

Of the four boys and one girl born to Mrs. Myers, only Mrs. Flora Taylor of Winterset and James Myers of Pittsburg, Texas survive.

MRS. ALICE MYERS

Alice A. Wines was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, in June 1831, and died at her home in Winterset Jan. 28, 1914. She was united in marriage to Samuel Myers in 1851, and in the winter of 1853, they came to Iowa, settling on a farm southwest of Winterset, which was the home until the Civil War. While the husband was away in the service, she made her home in town, which has since been her home.

Mr. Myers died in April, 1901. Five children were born to this union, four boys and one girl; one boy dying in infancy, Edwin dying when nine y ears old and Harry in August, 1902. Those remaining are James of Pittsburg, Texas and Mrs. Flora Taylor of Winterset.

In early girlhood she united with the M. E. church at Winterset but in the last few years she has been associated with the Church of Christ. She loved the church and its worship. It was her joy and life. She will be greatly missed in every department because she was one of the faithful.

Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis, assisted by Rev. J. S. Corkey. Interment in Rock City cemetery.
