Ruth Iona Burch, 85, of Modesto, Calif., died Nov. 15, 2004.

A private graveside inurnment of the cremains was held Friday, Dec. 31, with the Rev. George Thurman officiating.

A native of Jackson Township, Madison County, Ruth was the daughter of Jonathan Clifford Rowe and Bessie Merle (Fife) DeVault. She attended Pitzer School and Winterset High School. On Dec 17, 1940, she married John Hans Burch. She had been a member of the Pitzer United Presbyterian Church, Winterset, First Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Winterset. After moving to Modesto, Calif., in 1972, she worked first at Tillie Lewis Foods and then at Del Monte.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Jean Burch, Susan Ruth Burch and Roberta Jane Burch Corsiglia; one son, John Robert Burch, a sister, Merle Naomi DeVault of Moravia; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Home of Dexter.
