MELVIN H. JONES, Winterset

Funeral services for Melvin H. Jones, 93, were held Wed., Dec. 26 at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Zona Lautt officiating. He died December 23, 1990 at Bethesda Care Center, Winterset, where he was a resident.

Melvin Harold Jones was born to Benjamin F. and Stella (Harrell) Jones April 19, 1897 in Madison County. He married Irene Evans August 28, 1919 who died in April, 1947. He then married Lucie Alexander June 1, 1948 who died in January, 1977. He finally married Madeline Graves on January 15, 1978 who died in December 1984. A lifetime Madison County resident, Jones was a retired farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winterset, American Legion Post 184 of Winterset, a lifetime Farm Bureau member, a member of the Madison County Fair Board, Soil Conservation Board Member, and an Army veteran of World War I.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives and two brothers.

Surviving are Hubert C. Jones of Winterset, son of Melvin and Irene, a step-daughter, Lois Groth of Winterset; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
