Rev. L. F. Davis Had Served Christian Churches For 35 Years

The Rev. L. F. Davis, former pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset and a long-time resident of this community, died Monday, Nov. 7, at a nursing home in Des Moines. He was 92 years of age.

Leonard F. Davis was a native of Illinois, where he was born at Cuba (Ill.) on June 12, 1868, a son of James and Frances Henry Davis.

He was married at Cuba in 1893 to Pearl Baker. They were parents of a son and a daughter. The wife and mother died in 1957.

The Rev. Mr. Davis was pastor of the Winterset Christian church for six years from 1909 to 1915. He served a total of 35 years as minister of various churches in Iowa. In 1934, he retired and returned to Winterset where he made his home until recently.

During his pastorate here he organized the first Boy Scout troops in this community. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Masonic lodge and I.O.O.F lodge

During World War I he served overseas 19 months as a field secretary with the Y.M.C.A.

Surviving are the son, Herschel B. Davis of Des Moines; the daughter, Mrs. Frances Goldman of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
