Mrs. Will C. Johnson, a well-known Winterset woman and member of a pioneer Madison county family, died Wednesday Sept. 14, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, where she had been a patient for two and a half weeks. She was 75 years of age.
Mrs. Johnson was the former Goldie M. Clark, daughter of Joel N. and Sylvia Darnall Clark. She a granddaughter of Caleb and Ruth Clark, who came to Madison county in 1846 with the pioneering Clanton-Clark family. She was born in this county on March 21, 1885 and spent her entire life here.
On June 26, 1907, she was married to Will C. Johnson of Winterset. During her life here she was active in numerous organizations, including the Iris club, the Current Topic club and the P.E.O. sisterhood, having served as an officer of each. She also served as president of the Parent-Teacher associations in both Winterset elementary schools, and at the high school.
She was a life-long member of the Winterset Christian church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and the Loyal Workers class for 18 years. She served as Sunday school superintendent, president of the Christian Women's fellowship, served as deaconess and was named an honorary deaconess.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Mont, Dwight and Clarence Johnson all of Winterset; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Opal Elderkin.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Winterset Christian church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Robert A. Owens. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
