Clarinda Ross, daughter of John and Martha Ross, was born near Rutland, Vermont, Dec. 20, 1833 and died at her home near Winterset on March 27, 1922 having lived to the age of 88 years, 3 months and 7 days.

When a girl of 17 years, she moved with her parents to New York, where she was married to Isaac Adams on July 22, 1855. In the spring of 1866 they moved to Illinois, and two years later came to Iowa and located in Adams county. A little later they went to Minnesota, and made their home in that state until they came to Madison county in 1872. One year later they moved to the farm which became the home for the remaining years of the life.

Nine children came into this family, two of whom died in infancy and one in young manhood. Those surviving are Buell and Guy of Winterset; Will of Meeteetse, Wyo.; Mrs. Jennie Walters of near Peru; Mrs. Jessie Barker of Mystic, S. D.; and Miss Callie Adams, who has been with the mother in the home.

She was a strong, active woman until she suffered a broken hip 15 years ago. From that time she became confined to her bed, but was always cheerful, and was pleased that she could use her hands in serving others.

Besides the six children, she leaves to hold her in sacred memory, 29 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She will be sadly missed in the home and community, for her cheerfulness and love for others won for her the sincere affection of all who knew her.
