Richard Elmer Phillips, 76, died Fri., Oct. 18 at Des Moines General Hospital. Services were October 21 at Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Selva Lehman and Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera officiating.

A lifelong Truro-area resident, he was born February 22, 1915 in Ohio Township, Madison County, to Elmer Clay and Mary Catherine (Patterson) Phillips and was educated in the Oak Run, Peru and Truro schools. He married Alice Louise Sankey December 14, 1940 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and the Truro Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1988 and a sister.

Survivors include three sons, Larry and friend, Elaine, Gary and wife, Kathy and Terry and wife, Nancy, all of Truro; two brothers, Robert and wife Mary, of Winterset and Marvin and wife, Mary, of Truro; a sister, Amy Sykes and husband, Jim, of Hammond, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Madison County. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or the Lions Club of Truro.

Richard E. Phillips, 76, of Truro died of a heart ailment Friday at Des Moines General Hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro, of which he was a member.

Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in Madison County.

Mr. Phillips, a lifelong Truro-area resident, was a retired farmer and a member of the Truro Lions Club.

He is survived by three sons, Larry, Gary and Terry, all of Truro; two brothers, Robert of Winterset and Marvin of Truro; a sister, Amy Sykes of Hammond, Ill.; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or to the Lions Club of Truro.
