Vern Locke, a life-long resident of Winterset, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Minneapolis, Minn., following a heart attack. He and his wife had been spending Christmas at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ray of Minneapolis, and his death occurred at their home. He had suffered from a heart condition for many years.

Mr. Locke was 63 years of age. He was born here Oct. 23, 1897, a son of John and Alice Fosher Locke. His entire life was spent in this community. For many years he had operated the Locke Brothers Roofing Company here in partnership with his brother, Harry Locke. He also had farming interests here.

He is survived by his wife, the former Opal Jordan of Winterset. He also leaves the brother, Harry Locke of Winterset and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Adams of Winterset and Mrs. Doris Masters of Des Moines.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed as the Madisonian went to press Wednesday. The body is at the Richards Funeral Home in Winterset.
