Mrs. M. E. Fox Died at Gilmore City

Injury Suffered Last April Culminates in Death of Pioneer Woman

Mrs. M. E. Fox, a pioneer resident of this county, died last Saturday in Gilmore City at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. R. Burrell. She was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Fox had suffered a fall here on April 27 in which she had fractured her hip. Since that time her health had been failing. She was cared for at the Winterset hospital for eight weeks, and then taken to the home of her daughter in Gilmore City.

Mrs. Fox was the former Mary Ellen Wright, daughter of Jackson and Nancy Wright, and was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 29, 1860. In 1873 she came with her parents to this county.

She was married Nov. 10, 1878, to Elijah Fox. They were the parents of nine children. Her husband and two daughters, Velma Frances and Mrs. Byron Bowles, preceded her in death.

In 1888 she became a member of the Early Chapel church. After moving to Winterset she placed her membership with the Methodist church. She was also a member of the Woman's Relief corps.

She is survived by five sons, Frank Fox of Earlham, Walter Fox of Emmett, Ida., Orval Fox of Harrison, Neb., Leslie Fox of Red Oak, and Frank Fox of Winterset; two daughters, Mrs. L. F. Howard of Harrison, Neb., and Mrs. Burrell of Gilmore City; 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four brothers, Joe Wright of Brainard, Minn., Will Wright of Greenfield, Harvey Wright of Oregon, and Verner Wright of Lewiston, Mont.; and one sister, Mrs. Ben McCleed of Cerres, Calif.

Funeral services were held in Winterset from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Monday, in charge of the Rev. A. R. Weed of Carl. Burial was made in the Greenfield cemetery.
