Death of John W. Wray

John W. Wray, for many years a resident of Douglas township, and later a resident of Winterset, died Friday, November 1st, at the age of 76 years. Mr. Wray suffered a stroke of paralysis two years ago, and since then has been in poor health.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wray and was born near Wenona, Illinois, July 17, 1853. When still young, he came to Dana, with his family. He was married to Elizabeth Brunskell, and they made their home on a farm near Perry. They were the parents of three children: Mrs. Edith Shaffer, who died in 1925; Glen, who died in 1920, and Gladys, who died in 1928. In 1908, the Wray family moved to a farm in Douglas township, and Mrs. Wray died within the following two weeks. In 1918, Mr. Wray and his daughter, Miss Gladys, moved to Winterset, where they had since resided. Since the death of Miss Gladys, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cummings, his granddaughter and her husband, have cared for him.

He leaves three grandchildren: Mrs. Hazel Cummings, Dorothy Shaffer and Helen Wray, also several brothers and one sister.

Rev. A. P. Keast conducted the funeral service in the Tidrick funeral home, Sunday afternoon, November 3, and the interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
