DAWN R. CLIPPERTON, Winterset

Dawn R. Clipperton, 84, died of cancer April 18, 2001, at West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 23, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Dr. Bobby Dickerson officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Dawn Clipperton was born Feb. 13, 1917, to Robert Ross and Agnes (Harp) Rogers of Winterset. A 1934 graduate of Winterset High School, she had worked for the local telephone company and at the J.C. Penney store in Winterset. In 1946, Dawn moved to Des Moines and started working in the advertising department of the Des Moines Register & Tribune. She was employed by the Register for 30 years, retiring in 1976. She then moved back to Winterset. She married Wendell Lytle on Dec. 19, 1937. Mr. Lytle died in June of 1960. She later married Glen Clipperton on June 15, 1963. She had been a member of the Pythian Sisters, Studious Moderns, Madison County Antique Asso., Friendly Neighbor Garden Club, Current Topic Club, Madison County Historical Society, First Christian Church and CWF-Rebekah/Ruth Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, both husbands and a sister.

She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Forbes of Branson, Mo., and Kathleen Whatley (husband Charles) of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Gordon Wilson of Winterset; a stepdaughter, Beatrice Dimick (husband Larry) of Lansing, Mich.; two-stepsons, Gene Clipperton (wife Sally) of Des Moines and DeVere Murphy (wife Linda) of Barrington, Mich.; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
