A. D. DANFORTH Dies at 79 years

Winterset Madisonian
October 30, 1963

Alfred D. Danforth, prominent Winterset realtor and business man for many years, and member of a pioneer family in this community, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1963, at his home in Winterset. He was 79 years of age and died after a short illness.

Mr. Danforth was born in Winterset May 10, 1884, a son of Challen and Lida Sterman Danforth. During his long business life in this community he was engaged in real estate and loan services and also spent many years in the hardware and later the grocery business in Winterset. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church here. In recent years he has been in the real estate business, and was in his office last week.

He was married Dec. 25, 1908, to Mabelle Benson of Winterset. Their married life has been spent in this community.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mabelle Danforth; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Singer of Pompton Plaines, N.J.; a grandson Steven Singer of Pompton Plaines; and a sister, Mrs. Lucille Hake of Worland, Wyo. Two brothers, Fred and Jay Danforth, and a sister, Mrs. Beulah Foster, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset. Burial ws made in the Winterset cemetery.
