Thomas Ham

Thomas Ham was born in Somersetshire, England, November 9, 1858, and passed from this life at his home in Winterset, March 28, 1930, having reached the age of 71 years, 6 months and 19 days.

He was united in marriage to Ann Arthur, of Somersetshire, June 7, 1881, and came to this country, settling near Solon, Iowa. Eleven children came to this home, one of which, Sarah, the eldest, died in infancy. The others, Frank, James, Fred, Emma, William, Ralph, Jesse, Mabel, Blanche, and Thomas, with the mother, were permitted to be with or near him at the time of his death. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters, twenty-four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Ham was never a man who cared for the spectacular things of life. He cared rather for the things of home, and in so doing, possibly achieved one of the greatest successes that can come to any man, namely that of leaving a fine family of honorable and upright citizens to carry on when the time came for him to lay aside the duties of this life.
