Emma Gene Binns of Winterset died on Friday, Dec. 11, 1987, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 70 years old at the time of her death.
Mrs. Binns was born at Pensacola, Mayes County, Okla. She left Oklahoma at an early age when she and her family moved to Diamond, Missouri. From there, the family moved on to Clarke County south of Murray and then to Madison County near Winterset. She lived there until her marriage to Alferd Binns when she moved to the Binns' farm in Webster Township. Emma Gene lived on the Binns' farm for about 50 years until her move to Winterset in October 1986.
She was born on September 9, 1917. She was the daughter of Felix George Gonseth and Bertha Louisa Gensicke Gonseth. On June 19, 1937, she married Alferd Binns at the Baptist parsonage in Winterset.
Survivors include a son, Earl Paul Binns of Winterset; and daughters, Katherine Louisa Herrick of Winterset, and Mary Ann Jeri Garrison of Des Moines. She had four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother, Charles Louise Gonseth of Earlham. Emma Gene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alferd Binns, and one brother, Frederick Henry Gonseth of Earlham.
Services were conducted at the Collin's Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 15 in Winterset with interment at the Winterset Cemetery. The Reverend Bob Epperson conducted the services.
