Mrs. Mary Alice Kale, a pioneer resident of Warren and Madison counties, died at the Harken hospital in Osceola last Thursday, May 18, 1944. Two weeks ago she had suffered a fractured hip in a fall. She was 88 years of age.
Mrs. Kale was the former Mary Alice Cummings, daughter of Perry and Elizabeth Cummings, and was born near Center, in Howard county, Indiana on Sept. 2, 1855. When she was but a few months old she came with her parents to Warren County, Iowa.
The family later moved to Madison county, near Truro, where most of her life was spent. She was married there at the age of 20 years to Edward D. Bradshaw, who died 13 years later. They were the parents of a daughter, Nellie, who is now Mrs. P. K. McKee of Indianola.
In 1889 she was married to Wilson S. Kale of Truro. They were the parents of two children, Harry Kale of Truro, and Hazel - of Galesburg, Ill. Mr. Kale also preceded her in death.
In addition to her three children, she leaves seven grandsons, and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Kale Funeral home at Truro last Saturday, in charge of the Rev. James A. Worrell of New Virginia. Burial was made at Young Cemetery near Truro.
