JOHN RICHARDS JORDAN

John R. Jordan was born March 19, 1841 in Morgan County, Ohio and died at his home near Barney, Iowa, Feb. 21, 1919.

He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Hannah Reed Feb. 8, 1870. To this union were born ten children, eight of whom survive him.

They are: Mrs. Effie Proctor of Greenfield, Norris Jordan of Macksburg, Mrs. Ressie Willoughby, Rockford, Ill., Talley Jordan of Des Moines, Clella Coffman of Des Moines, Dessie Pope of Barney, Forrest and Zetta Jordan of Barney, Mina and one son who died in infancy.

All of the surviving children were with him during the last days of his illness.

These with 25 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends are left in sorrow of his departure.

John R. Jordan was one of the pioneer settlers of Iowa, having settled in Iowa county in 1868; migrating to and settling in Adair County in 1875, having continuously resided in Adair and Madison counties until his death.

He was a kind loving husband and father, an accommodating neighbor; always ready to lend a helping hand and to know his goodness and greatness was to know him personally.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, conducted by Rev. E. H. Willey, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset.

Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
