Widow of Mr. Pleasant Elmer Beaman of Greenfield, Adair County, Iowa
Funeral services for Mary Almina Roberts Beaman, always known as "Mina", who died May 29, 1944, were held Wednesday afternoon May 30 at the Bickford-Poffenburger Funeral Home. Mr. Charles conducted the services. Her five sons serving as pallbearers were Eldon, Charles, Tom, John and Floyd ("Brady") Beaman. Her brother, John Roberts, served as a sixth pallbearer. Burial took place in the Greenfield Cemetery beside her husband Pleasant Elmer Beaman, who preceded her in death three years ago on April 21, 1941.
Mary Almina Roberts was born February 26, 1870 in Grand River Township, Adair County, the only daughter of John Roberts and Emily McDonald Roberts, one of the pioneering families of Adair County. She was united in marriage with Mr. Pleasant Elmer Beaman on August 18, 1887. To this union ten children were born, the first, a daughter, dying in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Beaman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 18, 1937. Mr. Beaman preceded her in death in 1941. Mrs. Beaman passed away at her home in Greenfield, Monday morning at 5:00, May 29, 1944 at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 3 days.
Mrs. Beaman united with the Church of Christ several years ago. She was ready and willing to join her "Heavenly Father" and said she had lived her life and was ready to go.
Surviving are her nine children: Ona Mae Beaman/Mrs. Herbert Stowell of Greenfield; Sarah Iva Beaman/Mrs. Byron Garland of Winterset; Walter Eldon Beaman of Dexter; Charles William Beaman of Casey; Thomas Elmer Beaman of Melcher; John ("Jack") Beaman of Afton; Mamie Emily Beaman/Mrs. Theodore M. Cook of Carpenter; Floyd Irwin ("Brady") Beaman of Mt. Ayr, and Clarence Arthur ("Mike") Beaman, who is a Sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Sam, Houston, Texas, and was unable to attend. Mrs. Beaman also leaves 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 brothers: Joe Roberts of Stuart; Len Roberts of Greenfield; John Roberts of Dexter; and Tom Roberts of Winterset. Also surviving to mourn her passing are a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
