E. J. HARTLEY DIED MONDAY

Winterset Madisonian
December 23, 1970

Edward J. Hartley of near Winterset, a life-long resident of Madison county, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1970, at his home in Union township. He was 63 years of age and had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Hartley was born at Winterset May 11, 1907, a son of E. D. and Ellen L. Smith Hartley. For many years he had engaged in farming in Union township.

He was married Aug. 24, 1930, at Conception, Mo., to Adah Marie Stewart, who survives him.

He was a life-long member of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Winterset.

In addition to his wife; he leaves three children, Mrs. James E. Pauletti of Calona, Ill., E. J. Hartley of Winterset, and Mrs. Charles H. Steilen of Spokane, Wash. He also leaves 16 grandchildren; and a brother, Jno. N. Hartley of Winterset.

Rosary will be recited for the deceased this Wednesday at 9 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset. Funeral will be held this Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church, conducted by the pastor, Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
