Funeral services for Helen G. Graves, 68, who died July 14, 1984, at the Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines were held Tuesday, July 17, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.

Born Nov. 20, 1915, in Lincoln Township, she was a daughter of Marion Rufus and Irma G. Evans Graves. She attended local schools and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1939 with a B.S. Degree in nursing. She received an M.A. degree in nursing administration from the University of Chicago in 1950.

During World War II, she was a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, serving in the United States and European theatre. Her professional nursing career included staff positions at University Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa; Parkland Hospital, Dallas, Tex.; and a faculty position with the University of Chicago. For 20 years, she held the position of assistant administrator and director of nursing at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta. Ga. Upon retirement in 1980, she moved to the family farm in Lincoln Township.

While active in nursing, Helen was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, honorary nursing fraternity; American Nurses Association; and the National League for Nursing. Other memberships included the Altrusa Club of Atlanta, garden clubs, the Women's Golf Asso. and hospital auxiliary. She was always an active member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving her are two sisters, Aileen E. Lee of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and Zella M. Edwards of Winterset, and two sisters-in-law, Betty (Mrs. Harold) Graves, of Toulon, Ill., and Lucile (Mrs. Robert) Graves of Wintersset.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers.
