From Illinois they came to Wright County, Iowa, in 1884. From Wright County they moved to Madison county, locating on a farm four miles north of Winterset in 1897. Mr. House passed away on January 18, 1915. Mrs. House remained on the farm until 1919 when she moved to the home on East Green Street.
Mrs. House’s death came on December 22, 1930, after a long illness from which she knew she was not to recover. Those who survive are four children, Mrs. Cora Doremus, Somis, California; Mrs. Myrtle White, Clarion, Iowa; Howard House, Winterset; Mrs. Lela Hines, Oakland, California. Mrs. House was raised a Dunkard. She united with the Church of Christ in Clarion, Iowa in 1890. She was an ardent worker in the church. She shared in the joy of seeing the first Church of Christ built in that community. Upon moving to Madison county the family sought the Church of Christ and placed their membership immediately. She was very active in the women’s class, the Ladies Aid society. A regular attendant at all the services of the church. Her hands were constantly finding some loving task to do. She lived to serve.
