Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa
December 13, 1928

Mrs. George A. Piatt

Laurena Josephine Hennen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Voshel Hennen, entered this life on March 4, 1868, in Penn township, Madison county, and passed to the life eternal on November 29, 1928, at the age of 60 years, 8 months and 25 days. In this community where her entire life was spent, she received her education and training for life and its usefulness.

On March 25, 1891, she was untied in marriage to George A. Piatt. To the happy family circle thus formed came these sons, Willard Voshel, Lawrence and Lester Lewis, all of Earlham. All of whom were present to pay reverence to a precious and devoted mother. Four grandchildren, Marlin, Warren, Phyllis and Hilda, are left, who will miss the companionship of a loving friend. She leaves one brother, George Hennen of Des Moines, who is the sole survivor of his father's family, also many other close relatives and friends, for she was loyal, patient and charitably disposed toward all with whom she was associated, and her friends are numbered by those who knew her.

In early girlhood Rena confessed her faith in Christ and united with the Penn Center M. E. church. She kept the faith; her life ended with no broken promises.

Through all the years she has been a dutiful daughter, a faithful wife and a most devoted mother. She leaves in sorrow her husband and her sons, whose devotion during the many years of illness and semi-invalidness has been a beautiful thing.

Funeral services at the Penn Center M. E. church on Sunday afternoon, December 2, conducted by Rev. Corrie and Rev. Hastie, were attended by a throng of sympathizing friends. Following the service interment was made in the Penn Center cemetery, where the grave was made beautiful with lovely flowers.
