Young Mother Dies in Hospital

Mrs. Floyd Cumings died early Wednesday morning, January 22, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Mrs. Cumings, who was 19 years of age, became ill last Monday morning and was taken to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. A Caesarian operation was performed Monday afternoon and she gave birth to a baby daughter. Her condition continued serious and she died Wednesday morning at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Cumings was formerly Miss Hazel Shaffer, and was a daughter of Clyde Shaffer. Her marriage to Mr. Cumings was an event of last February; February 20, 1929. For a while they resided with the bride's grandfather, J. W. Wray, but recently the couple have been living on South Fifth street.

Mrs. Cumings is survived by her husband, their infant daughter, her father, and one sister, Miss Dorothy. She is also survived by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, January 24th, at Tidrick's funeral home, at two o'clock, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery. The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, and the Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of the West Star church, will have charge of the services.

Hazel Cummings

Hazel Margaret Shaffer Cummings, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Shaffer, was born June 13, 1910, in Douglas township, Madison County, Iowa, and departed this life January 22, 1930, at the age of 19 years, 7 months and 9 days. Hazel's mother preceded her in death 6 years ago leaving her and a younger sister, Dorothy, in the care of their father and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Shaffer.

At the age 14 years, Hazel United with the Early Chapel Church of Christ and had been a loyal believer since for conversion.

On February 20, 1929, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Cummings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cummings, of Winterset. This young couple at once assumed the responsibility of caring for Hazel's aged and invalid grandfather, J. W. Wray, of Winterset. They made their home with him until his death, November 1, 1929. They then moved to their residence on S. 5th street, where they have since resided.

She was a kind and loving daughter, a true and faithful wife and a helpful friend. Those who mourn her early departure are her husband and an infant daughter, Hazel Margaret, a father, a sister, Dorothy, her aged grandparents and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Winterset Church of Christ, Friday, January 24, at 2 o'clock. Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ, Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of the West Star church, were in charge of the services. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
