Cecil Wayne Ackelson, 72, of Chariton died from complications of pneumonia Feb. 13, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastors Gene Phillips and Paul Kirkman officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.

Wayne Ackelson was born Feb. 2, 1927, to Emory C. and Gladys (Jeffs) Ackelson of Peru. He was raised in Madison County on a farm south of Peru and was a graduate of Peru High School. He married Ethyle Eileen Powell on Feb. 25, 1952 in Council Bluffs. Wayne also lived in Council Bluffs, Des Moines and Winterset during his working years in the grocery business before retiring and moving to Chariton. He also was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
