After an illness of about five weeks due to old age and weakenss of the heart, Mr. George Carrington died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Millie Boyle, in Penn township, Wednesday evening, May 23, and was buried in the Penn Center cemetery.

The funeral services were held in the Penn Center Methodist Church, of which he was a member for a number of years and were conducted by the pastor, Friday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. The following is the life sketch which was read at that time:

On last Wednesday evening at about twenty minutes to six o’clock, the whole country-side was cast into gloom. The angel of Death had flown this way, and Mr. George Carrington, who had been a resident among us for thirty years, answered the summons. And he was ready. He had traveled this earthly way for --- years and 30 days. Early in life, in the days of his youth, when the --- days come not, nor the years ---, whom he would have no pleasure in spiritual things; then it was he gave his heart to God. Death had no dominion over him, for he put his trust in the God of life. His first years were spent in the Christian Church. Upon coming to Iowa he joined the Methodist Church, and for forty-five years in that church he has had an attitude of quiet faithfulness. He had a simple trust. He loved God and his fellows. He gave us all the impression that he was anchored to the Rock of Ages.

It was on the 24th of April 1849 that Mr. Carrington was born at Russelville, Indiana. In youth, he moved to Illinois. Near Fairmount, in this state, he was married to Miss Louisa Graham, Dec. 25, 1877. A few years after their marriage, they moved to Iowa. Their first residence was at Spalding, then Macksburg. They then moved to Penn Township, Madison County. After some years spent on the farm they moved to Earlham, where they were living upon the death of Mrs. Carrington, Sept. 7, 1924. The most of the time since then, Mr. Carrington has been with his children, making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Erve Boyle.

Those who will miss him most are his three children: Claude of Center City, Nebr., Mrs. Millie Boyle, of Dexter, and George Jr. of Earlham. Two of his brother, deceased, were Andrew of Kamalea, Ill., and William, of Fairmount, Ill. There are two sisters, Mrs. John Hopper and Mrs. Miles Williams now living in Danville, Ill. There are nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, and many other relatives and friends who counted him dear unto them. For fifty-five years Mr. Carrington was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. This order is her today to perform the rites of interment at the grave. And we as a community gather here to do his memory reverence.
