Mrs. Sarah J. Hann Dies Monday, Dec. 26

Mrs. Hann, Who was 96, Is Thought to be Oldest
Woman in County.

Mrs. Sarah J. Hann, who is thought to be the oldest woman in Madison county, died Monday, December 26, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sanson Welch. Mrs. Hann was 96 years of age. She was a true pioneer of Madison county, coming here with her husband, Hugh Hann, in 1855. They raised a large family, most of whom now reside in this county.

Mrs. Hann was born in Delaware county, Ohio, December 9, 1831. She was married to Mr. Hann in 1848, and they came to Madison county in 1855. Mr. Hann died thirty years ago, and in recent years Mrs. Hann has been residing with members of her family. She is survived by five sons and one daughter, J. M. Hann, Smith Hann, G. W. Hann, A. J. Hann and Elizabeth Welch, all of this county, and Frank Hann, of Oskaloosa. One son and one daughter preceded her in death, John C. Hann died in infancy, and Nettie May Porter in 1895. She also leaves to mourn her death, 34 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

Rev. A. T. Keast conducted the funeral services in the George Hann home on East Jefferson street, Tuesday afternoon, December 27, and burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
