Gordon Raymon Cobbs, 76, of Truro, died of complications of heart surgery on Dec. 9, 1996 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Fri., Dec. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. The Rev. A.W. Phillips will officiate and burial will be at the Peru Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 184 in Winterset. Visitation will be open after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
He was born July 12, 1920 in Spencer to A.O. and Ethel (Pierce) Cobbs. He attended North High School, Kemper Military Academy, and the University of Iowa. He married Carol Ann Beverlin Rood on July 29, 1979. He was vice president of Adm. of Bob Allen Companies and prior to that in partnership with Cobbs Manufacturing Business. He was a retired Lt. Col. in the United States Air Force during World War II and was active in the Reserves for several years. He was a past member of the Wakonda and the Des Moines Club and a member of the Wakonda Christian Church in Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving relatives include his wife of Truro; two daughters, Cynthia L. Meadows and husband John of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kelsey C. Taylor and husband Ray of Palm Springs, Calif.; two stepsons, James Rodney Rood and wife Louise of Puyallup, Wash. and Randall Craig Rood and fiancee Cassie of Lacona; one stepdaughter, Rhonda Rae Phillips and husband Denny of Des Moines, one sister, Darrelene Sarcone of Waukee; one grandson; and ten step-grandchildren.
