Death of Mrs. D. S. DeWitt

Mrs. D. S. DeWitt, a resident of Union township for the past 27 years, died at her home, east of Winterset, Sunday, March 24th. Mrs. DeWitt had been in good health and had returned only the preceding evening from New Providence, where she had been visiting relatives. She arose early Sunday morning and heart trouble caused her death at 6:45 o'clock.

Mrs. DeWitt, who was 54 years of age, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell, of New Providence, and was born August 13, 1874. She was married to Mr. DeWitt September 18, 1900, and they moved to Madison county. They have lived on their farm, east of Winterset, since 1902. Mrs. DeWitt leaves her husband and five children: Rodney, Ruth, Louis, Alice and Richard. She also leaves her father, four brothers and three sisters.

She belonged to the Royal Neighbor Lodge of Patterson and was lodge musician for many years. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in New Providence, when she was 18 years of age, and had since been active in church work. She was a good neighbor and her devotion as a mother and wife was said to be unlimited.

The Rev. A. P. Keast conducted the funeral services at the home, Tuesday, March 26th, at 1:30 o'clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

OBITUARY – Mrs. David S. DeWitt

Minnie Marcia, daughter of George W. and Lurena A. Mitchell, was born near New Providence, Iowa, August 13, 1874. The early years of her life were spent at New Providence.

She was married to David S. DeWitt September 18, 1900. They moved to Madison county after their marriage, where the rest of her life was lived. To them were born five children: Rodney, Ruth Louise, Alice and Richard.

She belonged to the Royal Neighbor lodge of Patterson where she was a faithful member and lodge musician for many years. Mrs. DeWitt united with the Methodist church when eighteen years of age, serving her church faithfully.

She had just returned from a visit to her old home at New Providence when she died without previous illness Sunday, march 24, 1929. She leaves beside her husband and children, her father, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Tuesday afternoon by the rev. A. P. Keast. Burial in the Winterset cemetery.
